Objectives
In 2008 America’s youth will play a pivotal role in selecting the 111th Congress and the next President of the United States. The media has lavished praise on Senator Barack Obama for bringing new voters and new, young activists into the political fold while ignoring the undeniable growth of College Republicans nationwide.
An unprecedented number of young people are registering as Republicans and getting geared up to prevent the most liberal senator in the United States Senate from becoming President. And they're motivated to reassert Republican ideals of organic government and fiscal responsibility in the halls of Congress.
This summer, the College Republican National Committee is setting out to prove what the media refuses to acknowledge; that the youth of America are excited about the prospects of a John McCain Presidency and a Republican Congress. Four CRs are embarking on a journey to discover “Where is the Red?”
About “Where’s the Red?”
Unlike Democrats, Republicans can truly boast to being a coast-to-coast party, with the ability to travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific without ever touching a Democrat controlled district. Our journey will kick off in Sarasota, FL - campaign headquarters of Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-13), one of the DCCC's targeted Red to Blue Districts.
The “Where is the Red” crew will proceed up Florida into Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and then to the renowned swing state of Ohio. After working hard in one of the hottest battlegrounds of the 2008 election, we will proceed through Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa into the Republican strongholds of Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
Our trek wraps up in Senator McCain’s home state of Arizona, and potential 2008 swing states New Mexico, Nevada and California. . All-in-all, we will travel through twenty-one states without ever leaving a Republican controlled Congressional district. After the coast-to-coast trek, we'll head to Denver for the Democratic National Convention, and on to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis.
Throughout our journey, we'll be taking photos, posting YouTube videos, and blogging about our experiences. We will interact with candidates, volunteers, and voters to discover what is truly important to Americans this November. We'll interview and recruit College Republicans from campuses all across the country and hopefully inspire more youth to get involved in the political process and to help point out to the rest of our country that America's youth do care about our country's political process.
