a little post-it note goes a long way

We had lunch with Anne Northup today as we wrapped up our work in Louisville (a.k.a loo-vull). It was great to spend some time getting to know the woman we were working for in a city we've really enjoyed.  She pressed us to find out what we thought were some of the best ideas other campaigns have had so she could learn from them.  We've been making mental notes of these things along the way so we were able to answer that question pretty easily.

In Ohio, Steve Stivers is leaving handwritten post-it notes on the literature we left at people's houses who weren't home when we went door to door.  All of us were pretty impressed with that because it was unique and gave his efforts a personal touch.  The campaign has gotten really positive responses from them and I like to think that when people saw  a personal note attached, they were more likely to read the brochures we left.

Also in Ohio, Steve Austria's campaign was passing out fans at a county fair that said "I'm a fan of Steve Austria."  In the middle of July, it's way too hot to pass up a fan so everyone who walked by our booth took one, even if they weren't an Austria supporter.  Basically, all of the people who took those fans were free advertising and I think they were incredibly effective for name recognition.

All of this positivity about Ohio is probably going to Jeremy's head so I'll stop now.  We have a long day of driving ahead of us; in the morning we're off to Bowling Green, KY to work with Brett Guthrie's campaign and then we'll be driving ahead to Springfield, Illinois -- pray for good weather and gas prices that will still be decreasing.

I miss you too! Despite how much fun I'm having, it was painful to have missed the concert and the annual bbq ... hope your summer is going well and I'll be seeing you soon.

Hi Christie! It's fun to read your entries and see where you're at. Nothing like life experience to learn first-hand things that books just can't seem to hit. Mr. Jones and I saw your Fox News clip... pretty cool! Have safe travels and I'll keep checking in to see your entries along the way. God speed. Mrs. Jones
