Festivus for the rest of us

It has been great to be back in my home state of Ohio. In the span of a week, we have hit five OH Republican districts and one top Blue to Red targeted district. The festival season has begun and we have been spending a significant amount of time manning the festivals for candidates while in the area. This week we have been to three and we plan on hitting two more in the next two days.

Sunday, we went to the St. Rita's School for the Blind Festival, one of the biggest summer festivals in my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, to represent Congressman Steve Chabot (OH-1). In the past, Congressman Chabot has had volunteers handout his trademark plastic cups that sport a cartoon image of his face, however this year we were unable to do it. Apparently before the church festival season kicked off, the Archbishop of Cincinnati barred distribution of campaign material at church festivals, so we were at the festival to just have a presence. The WITR crew and a few College Republicans from Miami U, Heath Ingram and Chris Berry sported the Chabot for Congress t-shirt and just enjoyed the festivities. It was perfect Sunday evening after a long week of work. We got a lot of positive feedback from festival attendees and there was no sight of anyone from opponent's campaign!

On Monday, we manned the Kentucky Republican Party booth at the Kenton County Fair. We spend our evening (next to the tantalizing Blooming Onion booth) handing out information about Congressman Geoff Davis, Republican Leader Senator Mitch McConnell, and an assortment of local candidates including our main man State Representative Candidate Steve Wood. The Trenton County Fair was pretty small but we were happy to be able to spread the word for Kentucky Republicans

Today we spent some time in New Lexington, OH a small town SE of Columbus, at the Perry County Fair. New Lexington is the largest town in Perry County, and needless to say it isn't that large, but the fair was HUGE. There was rides, booths, a livestock show, and tractor race/pull. It was cool to see a part of Ohio I had never seen before. We spent the afternoon handing out Steve Austria for Congress fans, which were a big hit. I think the fans are brilliant. It was an extremely hot days (at least in Ohio terms) and almost everyone was happy to take a free fan. Whether the fair attendees look at their fans or not, I think they are great advertising.

Steve Austria is currently a State Senator and current Majority Whip in the Ohio State Senate. He is from Beavercreek, around Dayton/Springfield, so we were told our presence at the fair would be some of those people's first contact with (hopefully) their future Representative to the United States House. Senator Austria is looking to replace Republican Congressman Dave Hobson (OH-7) who is one of many Republicans to retire after the 110th Congress.

Our Fair/Festival work is not done! Tomorrow we will be going to the Warren County Fair for Congressman Mike Turner (OH-3) and Saturday we will be going to the Adams County Fair and Livestock Sale for my Congresswoman, Jean Schmidt (OH-2). We don't have a day off until Sunday July 27th so check the website frequently over the next week and half. We'll have a lot going on!
