Full Steam Ahead

Today we finished our time in Buckeye HQ, Columbus, Ohio, hitting the streets of the eastside for Congressman Pat Tiberi.  The Tiberi campaign was refreshing;  In 2006 the Congressman was re-elected by over a 10% margin yet they are taking nothing for granted.    Their campaign is running at full steam.

When we arrived at the campaign HQ, we were pleasantly surprised to catch Congressman Tiberi.  He was making some fundraising phone calls before heading back to Washington.  Normally we don't get to meet a candidate on Tues-Thurs.  The congressman was very gracious for our help and happy to sit down and talk about our experiences.

After getting the rundown at the campaign office we headed to Gahanna, OH, an east suburb of Columbus.  The precinct is an important battle ground for Congressman Tiberi.  They actually had specific Gahanna literature that highlightied that he is an OSU alumnus (crucial here in Ohio, especially in Columbus) and specific issues that matter to the area: the economy, energy policy, and his legislative work on healthcare.

The campaign also had us drop off literature on the State Representative Jim McGregor.  Congressman Tiberi recognizes the importance of keeping Republicans in the state house, especially in his area and so the campaign coordinates with the local races and ensures that volunteers get information out for both candidates.

Former Congressman and potential gubernatorial candidate John Kascich passed this strategy on to the Congressman.  Prior to his election to the state house, Congressman Tiberi worked in Congressman Kasich's office in DC and ultimately succeded him.  Naturally, they handle their affairs similarly, and are both widely respected by their peers.

This evening we will be heading Canton, OH, home to another open seat and DCCC Red to Blue target.  We are excited to help out State Senator Kirk Schuring for the next couple days.
