sticks and stones

You know when you're little and you get picked on? Well, my mom would tell me this little rhyme to say to other people: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."
About 15 or so years later I find myself following the same advice. This trip seems to have stirred up a lot of emotions in a wide range of people. Everyday we get comments from people telling us how excited they are for us or how proud they are. The encouragement from these comments means the world to me.
The comments that mean the most to me are the ones from people who proudly call themselves Democrats (just as I proudly call myself a Republican) and say how great it is that regardless of our politics we are getting involved in the political process.
On the other hand we have received comments from people who are, to put it simply, less than pleased with what we are doing.
Any Democrat out there that thinks that I wouldn't like them solely on the basis of their political affiliations is sadly mistaken. My mom is in fact a Democrat and I love her. Most of my best friends from home and Fordham are Democrats too. Just because we disagree on ways to improve the economy and the concept of states' rights does not mean we are enemies.
Finally, I'm not going to apologize for what I believe in or who I am. I encourage every single person to strongly stand up for what they believe in, even if they wholeheartedly disagree with me.

Please tell me that in the very least you believe that the past eight years have been some of the most embarrassing and horrific years ever for our country. How can John McCain possibly be any better? He's a warmongering fool who will bring us into another bloody mess in the Middle East. Don't you care what the rest of the world thinks of the US?

San Franciscan Republicans are rare these days. (We we haven't had a Republican Mayor since about 1960.) But we're proud to say we're voting for Sen.McCain. You and other young people must carry the torch. Thank you for doing ths!
